Former Arsenal footballer Emmanuel Eboue has been arrested and taken to a London police station. The 35-year-old, who has previously spoken out about his struggles since retiring from football, has been bailed, the Mirror reported. Eboue, a former Ivory Coast international, has been arrested by police investigating an alleged arson in Enfield, north London.

He is expected to face no further action regarding the arson. In an initial statement, Scotland Yard said: ‘Police investigating an alleged arson at a residential address in Gladbeck Way, Enfield on Saturday, 30 June, arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of arson and malicious communications outside the address at around 5pm on Saturday, 7 July.

‘He was taken to a north London police station where he currently remains.’ A spokesman later added: ‘He has since been released with no further action in respect of the arson allegation. ‘He has been bailed for further enquiries in relation to the other offences.’ Since his retirement, Eboue, a cult hero at Arsenal, has given interviews that have sparked concerns for his mental health. He has said he has battled depression, and claimed he was left homeless by his divorce.
