Former President Jacob Zuma’s Son, Vusi Nhlakanipho Dies

A spokesperson for the Presidency has confirmed that one of former president Jacob Zuma’s sons has died. Vusi Nhlakanipho Zuma, who was the youngest son of Zuma and his late wife Kate Mantsho, died on Sunday night after a short illness. 

Condolences have been pouring in. Reverend Jesse Jackson tweeted on Sunday night that he was sending his prayers and condolences to the Zuma family.

In a statement, President Cyril Ramaphosa sent his condolences, saying his thoughts and prayers were with the Zuma family.

“I wish to convey, on behalf of government and all South Africans, our heartfelt condolences to former President Zuma, the Zuma family and relatives on the passing of their beloved son. Words cannot adequately express the pain of losing such a young family member,” said Ramaphosa.

The Economic Freedom Fighters also issued a statement Monday, sending the party’s condolences to former President Zuma and his family.

“When death visits, it is never pleasant for anyone, especially the loss of a young person who had his future ahead of him. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Zuma family,” said EFF spokesperson, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.
