Gunmen on Saturday reportedly killed couple in Umuota village Obosi in the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The names of the couple were given as Mr and Mrs Charles Ifekandu.

An anonymous source told Southern City News that the couple was murdered on Saturday by yet-to-be-arrested assailants.

The source said, “We suspect their killers were contracted by some people believed to have land issue with the man.

“The assailants operated without the intervention of either the police or the local vigilance group just a few metres to the palace of the traditional ruler.

“The couple after taking their dinner went to bed without suspecting any misfortune but the devil came to work at the late hours of the night when the deceased including their neighbours heard some gunshots.”

Our correspondent gathered that it was only Charles and his wife that were attacked in the premises, adding that no item was removed from their apartment.

A family source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Southern City News that the deceased had had an age-long dispute over land matters with some relations.

“I am aware that there have been age-long differences in the family of the deceased and one is left to suspect that what happened may not be unconnected with the crisis,” he said.

When contacted, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident.

While saying investigation was ongoing, Mohammed urged members of the public to assist the police with useful information that would help to unravel the killers of the couple.

The Obosi community has been enmeshed in crisis which has led to the killings and maiming of residents.
