The mum of a six-year-old girl who was found dead on a Scottish Island only found about the tragedy on Facebook. Alesha MacPhail was staying with her paternal grandparents on the Isle of Bute, but disappeared shortly after 6am yesterday morning. Her grandmother, Angela King, posted a desperate appeal on her Facebook page, saying: ‘Alesha has gone missing from our house please help look for her.’

Alesha’s father, Robert MacPhail was seen looking ‘white as a sheet’ as he called her name while desperately searching for her. But despite best efforts to locate her, the little girl’s body was discovered in the woodlands of the abandoned Kyles of Bute Hydropathic Hotel.

The news of the discovery broke at around 11.30am, but an hour later Alesha’s mother, 23-year-old Georgina Lochrane, commented on Angela’s post saying: ‘Someone tell me whats happened, that’s my daughter.’ Another user then commented with a link to a story, which reported a body had been found in the search for the missing girl. An hour later, Georgina, known as Genie posted again: ‘Angela answer me now. That is my fucking daughter.’

Miss Lochrane discovered Alesha MacPhail was dead after pleading for answers on Facebook and someone sent her a link to the story

Kelly Maddocks wrote: ‘Absolutely disgusted that this poor baby’s mummy has had to read her baby is missing and then to find she has passed away!!!! Heartbroken for you Genie Lochrane. ‘I don’t know you or your family but you should never have read anything about your wee girl, without hearing it firsthand… Especially before Facebook!!! God bless.’

Members of Angela’s family claimed that the girl’s grandparents had attempted to get in touch with Georgina, but to no avail. It is understood Miss Lochrane has since been escorted from her home in Coatbridge to the island by police.
