The Queen only discovered that false rumours of her husband Prince Philip’s death were spreading online when her staff started asking how he was. She was said to have been furious – and called her 97-year-old husband to discuss what they could do to combat fake news. Throughout Friday, the Duke of Edinburgh trended on Twitter as people speculated he had died.

And the situation was even tougher for the monarch as the couple are currently apart – she is on holiday in Balmoral while he is in Sandringham. A source told The Sun: ‘They both agreed there was little they could do but they are very, very annoyed. ‘It’s not nice to hear people the world over commenting on your health or death, even if you’re used to being in the public eye.

‘The Queen is absolutely fuming over this and thinks it’s disgraceful.’ The couple are said to have held a tense phone conversation for about 10 minutes.
