Sir Alex Ferguson has promised to return to Old Trafford next season after speaking in public for the first time since undergoing surgery for a brain haemorrhage. The 76-year-old was rushed to hospital in May after collapsing at his Cheshire home and he underwent emergency surgery. The legendary boss was in intensive care for a number of days and received round-the-clock treatment at the Salford Royal Hospital. The club were hopeful of Ferguson making a full recovery but were unsure in what capacity. However, speaking in a special video message released by United today, Ferguson has promised to return to Old Trafford next season

‘Hello, just a quick message first of all to thank the medical staff at Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexander hospitals,’ said Ferguson. ‘Believe me, without those people, who gave me such great care I would not be sitting here today, thank you from me and my family, thank you very much. ‘It’s made me feel so humble, as all the messages I’ve had from all over the world, wishing me the best and the good wishes resonate very, very strongly with me, so thank you for that support you’ve given me. ‘Lastly, I’ll be back later in the season, in the meantime all the best to Jose and the players. Thank you very much.’
