Man allegedly stabs lover over child’s custody

For allegedly assaulting his lover over the custody of their son, 30-year-old Chioma Ogwa has appeared before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Ogwa was arraigned on two counts of manner likely to cause breach of the peace and assault occasioning harm.

The police prosecutor, Dada Oluwaseun, told the court that the accused went to his lover’s residence on Galilee Avenue in the Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos State, requesting to take their four-year-old son.

Ogwa had reportedly gone in company with his younger brother.

At the refusal of the lover, identified as Folashade Poto, the suspect allegedly brought out a knife and stabbed her several times in the face, neck and back.

The prosecutor said Poto’s landlady rescued her from the suspect.

Ogwa was subsequently arrested an arraigned.

The charges read, “That you, Chioma Ogwa, on August 29, 2018, around 7pm on Galilee Avenue, Iju-Ishaga, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of the peace by making unpleasant noise, causing panic in the community.

“That you, Ogwa Chioma, on the same date, time and place, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did unlawfully assault one Folashade Poto, by stabbing her with a knife severally which cause her bodily harm.”

Dada said the offences contravened sections 168(1)(d) and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The presiding magistrate, A.K. Dosumu, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

She said the sureties should be gainfully employed with evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Dosumu adjourned the case till September 20, 2018.
