Nigeria’s Men’s U-18, U-20 Handball Teams Qualify For World Championships

Nigeria’s national U-18 and U-20 men’s handball teams have qualified for the 2019 World Cup in Spain reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The U-18 team qualified for the World championships on Saturday after playing out a 24-24 draw with Guinea in their final group game of the Junior Nations Cup in Marrakech, Morocco.

The U-18 Championship took place from September 7th to14th 2018, while the U-20 championship held from 15th to 22nd September.

The U-18 team finished third behind Egypt and Tunisia who will also represent Africa at the championships in Spain.

In a round robin format, Fidelis Obi’s team recorded three wins, a draw and two defeats.

Meanwhile, the U-20 boys were more impressive churning out five wins and two draws.

They also finished behind hosts Morocco and Egypt following wins against Guinea, Algeria, Mauritania, Tunisia and DR Congo.

“It was a tough encounter for us in both categories, but we thank God that we have gotten what we came here to fight for in Morocco and I want to thank the Federation and the Government for their support,” the leader of the Nigerian delegation to the tournament in Morocco, Alhaji Haruna Ilerika told Completesportsnigeria.com.
