The police in Abuja have arrested a taxi driver, Tijani Omeiza, for allegedly posing as an operative of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

He was said to have defrauded a number of people around Mararaba and Area 1, Abuja.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, DCP Salisu Gyadi-Gyadi, said the impostor was apprehended after some of his victims reported to the police.

He said, “The suspect, who often posed as Corporal Tijani to defraud unsuspecting members of the public, was arrested at Nyanya, Gwagwalape Phase 1, after a sting operation. We recovered from him one black fez cap with the inscription ‘SARS’ and a walkie-talkie.”

Omeka said he found the walkie-talkie on SARS premises, adding that the police cap was misplaced by a cop.

“The policemen are my friends and they usually use my services as a taxi driver whenever they go on operations.

“I travelled and the cap was with me for about three months because I was out of Abuja. I took my car for repairs with the intention of going to drop the cap and the walkie-talkie after they fixed my car. I was still at the mechanic workshop when I was arrested,” he said.
