Technology Agency Honours Anambra Girls Who Won Gold Medal In US.

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) today presented official letters of commendation, signed by Nigeria’s Chief Information Technology Officer/Director General of NITDA, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami FBCS, FIIM, an internet dongle with 3 months unlimited subscription, a tablet with e-learning Software to Team Save a Soul who recently won the Gold Medal at the World Technovation Challenge held in Silicon Valley, United States of America.

The presentation was made at the Agency’s Corporate Head Office in Abuja, when the young brilliant innovators, led by the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nkem Okeke honoured the Agency’s invitation.

Team Save a Soul are female students from the Regina Pacis Model Secondary School, Onitsha, Anambra State, who under the tutelage of Uchenna Onwuamaegbu, Managing Director, Edufun Technik –Stem Hub, developed a mobile app that helps checkmate the circulation of fake drugs in the country with the help of a smartphone. This innovation was adjudged best among several others pitched at the international fora.

Dr Pantami while making his remarks urged the kids not to relent on their efforts and also called on the school management to strive in driving innovation. He said “we have introduced the ‘Catch Them Young’ programme for kids during the vacation period, we hope to emulate other Nations and introduce cybersecurity classes from nursery school level.

The DG applauded Anambra state for making the country proud, and also pledged the donation of a Digital Capacity Building Centre to the School, adding that,“the most viable alternative to oil as a major source of revenue in Nigeria is ICT”.
