President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday formally accepted the resignation of Senator Aisha Alhassan as minister of Women Affairs and Social Development from the government with immediate effect.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists.

Shehu said Buhari sent a letter to the former minister on Sunday to convey the acceptance of her resignation.

He quoted the President as saying in the letter, “I have received your letter offering your resignation as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I accept your resignation with immediate effect.

“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I thank you for your past services to the nation.”

Shehu said the President had directed that the ministry be looked after by Hajiya Aisha Abubakar, the Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment.

This, he added, is also with immediate effect.
