Police rescued two toddlers left locked in a stifling hot car while their mum got her eyebrows threaded. As temperatures inside the Chevrolet Tahoe soared to an estimated 33C, the tots, aged two and three, were left alone while their mum, Darlisha Batchelor, visited a beauty salon in Arkansas, America.

The 19 year old faces two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor for leaving two children under the age of four in a SUV for more than 30 minutes, police told Arkansas Democrat Gazette.

Cops arrested her on Monday night at a shopping centre, according to a Pulaski county jail report.

A concerned passer-by spotted the pair in the Chevy and flagged down officers.

The police managed to get the three-year-old to unlock the car from the inside, which was described as being up to 15 degrees hotter than the outside temperature.

Their mum was tracked down in the nearby Lakewood Village shopping centre getting her eyebrows shaped. She was unable to see her vehicle from the salon as its curtains were drawn.

The teenager initially told cops her 13-year-old sister had been watching the children but left without telling her.

However, officers said that Batchelor later admitted her sibling was not with her in the first place.

She also claimed that she children had been left in the locked vehicle for 10 minutes, but police released them at 7.40pm – and salon records indicated she had arrived at around 7pm.

Batchelor was booked into the Pulaski County jail, where she faced a £7,500 bond.
