Arsenal are to turn their attention away from homegrown players in their transfer exploits, believing them to be overpriced. The Gunners have not signed a player who would qualify under the Premier League’s guidelines as a homegrown talent since they brought in Rob Holding from Bolton in the summer of 2016.
It is understood the club have since been offered two prominent homegrown players since Holding joined for £2.5million but have rejected both men, believing they did not represent value for money.
Head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is now thought to have ditched plans to improve the homegrown quota in the next two transfer windows and instead focus on making additions from overseas.
The former Borussia Dortmund man has strong contacts in Germany and it is likely Arsenal could do the majority of their shopping in and around the Bundesliga.
It is thought Mislintat has made the decision under pressure from the Arsenal board, who have sanctioned big money moves for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette recently, with the lack of Champions League football restricting how much the club can spend on transfers.
