Iwobi Outshines Ndidi, Iheanacho As Ozil-Inspired Arsenal Thrash Leicester 3-1

Alex Iwobi posted an outstanding performance for Arsenal who defeated Leicester City 3-1 in Monday night’s English Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came off the substitute’s bench to score twice as Arsenal made it 10 wins in a row in all competitions. It was the first time the Gunners recorded ten straight wins since 2007.

Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin netted an own goal deflecting in Ben Chiwell’s cross past Leno for Leicester’s opener in the 31st minute.

Mesut Ozil drew Arsenal level a minute before halftime finishing off a brilliant fast break which he started from the Gunners half.

At the restart, two second-half goals from Aubameyang claimed maximum points.

Nigerian pair of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho both made their ninth appearance for the Foxes while Iwobi played the entire duration of the encounter on his fourth start (sixth appearance) of the campaign.

Despite Arsenal’s early dominance of possession, it was Iheanacho that had the game’s first real chance at goal but his goal-bound shot was deflected wide in the third minute of the game.

Four minutes later the 22-year-old saw his curling shot from the edge of the box saved by Bernd Leno in goal for Arsenal.

In the 17th minute, Leicester City was denied a penalty after Rob Holding handled the ball in the ball in the box denying Ndidi in an aerial tussle.

Leno made an outstanding save in the 20th minute to deny Harry Maguire a goal off a James Maddison free-kick.

Iwobi came close to drawing Arsenal level in the 41st minute but his low drive was saved by Kasper Schmeichel.

At the start of the second half, Wilfred Ndidi missed a chance to restore Leicester City’s lead when his header was denied by the upright.

Aubameyang replaced Stephan Lichtsteiner in the 61st minute and scored two minutes afterward.

The Gabonese striker made it 3-1 finishing off a seductive move from Ozil in the three minutes later.
