Michael Buble has spoken about his withdrawal from social media and his plans to retire from the music business in his ‘last interview.’ Buble said the cancer diagnosis of his son Noah in 2016 changed his perspective on life and led him to delete social media and remove himself from the celebrity world. In the highly emotional interview with Daily Mail, he talked about how his son’s illness brought into focus the ‘celebrity narcissism’ which he realised he didn’t have the stomach for any more. The Canadian singer said: ‘Going through this with Noah, I didn’t question who I was, I just questioned everything else. Why are we here? ‘Is this all there is? Because if this is all there is, there has to be something bigger.’ Despite his decision to leave, Michael still uses social media in a professional capacity, but there are no personal snaps since 2016 – the year of Noah’s diagnosis.

He said: ‘I decided I’ll never read my name again in print, never read a review, and I never have. I decided I’d never use social media again, and I never have.’ In the interview, Michael also describes the devastating impact the diagnosis had on him and his wife of seven years, Luisana Lopilato. The 43-year-old said: ‘You just want to die. I don’t even know how I was breathing.’ Understandably, he was in no place to make new music during this time. However, 5-year-old Noah is now free of cancer and Michael has returned to music, albeit with a different perspective.

Speaking about his return to music he said: ‘Now I’m just singing the music I love. Maybe when you let go, maybe that’s when it comes back to you. Like [his new album] Love.’ The heartthrob finished the interview by hinting that his upcoming album, Love, may be his last. ‘I’m retiring from the business. I’ve made the perfect record and now I can leave at the very top.’ We can’t wait to hear the new record, but don’t leave us Michael! Love comes out on 16 November.
