Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a robbery suspect five days after he was released from the Ikoyi Prison.
The suspect, Tunde Okunola, 26, was reportedly arrested in Marwa Roundabout, Lekki, along with an accomplice, Segun Adigun, 27, while trying to rob one Gift Omini around 4.45am on Wednesday.
It was learnt that while Okunola and Adigun were arrested in the morning, another gang members operating on a motorcycle, Raimi fatai (16) and Yusuph Balogun (22) were arrested later on Wednesday in the National Stadium area, Surulere, after snatching a handbag from a lady.
Okunola, who was released from the Ikoyi Prison on Friday October 5, 2018, was arrested on Wednesday after robbing Omini of her mobile phone while on a motorcycle.
Okunola told the police that he had spent six months and two weeks in the Ikoyi Prison, adding that he was nabbed by RRS men five days after his freedom.
The suspect said, “I am a trained barber; I was looking for money for my freedom so that I can have my own shop. If I am released, I will never step into Lagos again.”
The victim, Omini, told the police that the suspects who were riding a motorcycle used a short axe to dispossess her of a mobile phone.
“My shout for help, however, attracted the attention of RRS officers at the roundabout and they arrested them,” she added.
The Surulere suspects, Fatai and Balogun, also told the police that they were trying to raise money for freedom after undergoing training as barbers. The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said the police would not allow criminality in the state.
