XXXTentacion has won an American Music Award, four months after he was shot dead. The late musician’s record 17 was named Favourite Soul/R&B Album at Tuesday night’s ceremony in Los Angeles and his mother was there to collect it. A very nervous Cleopatra Bernard broke down in tears as she took the stage at the Microsoft Theater after her son beat Khalid and SZA to the win. ‘I am honoured to accept this award on behalf of my son,’ she said. ‘I would like to thank the AMAs, his fans and everyone who made this possible.’

XXX was also nominated in the category of New Artist of the Year at Tuesday’s event but ultimately lost out to Camila Cabello. The rapper was shot dead in a drive-by shooting on 18 June in what’s thought to have been a robbery gone wrong. At the weekend, he was honoured at the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards. The musician was named Best New Hip Hop Artist at Jackie Gleason Theater in Miami.
