Micellar Water Benefits? Here's What You Need To Know & The Best Ones

By now there’s a good chance you’ve heard about micellar water, especially if you follow beauty blogger, Dimma Umeh. But if you haven’t, we have all the information you need. And great reasons why you should be using it right now!

Micellar water benefits are not a whole lot, but the few key ones will definitely convince you. So what is micellar water and why should you add it to your skincare regimen?

Well, this beauty favourite comes all the way from France. Its formula contains tiny oil molecules called micelles, that act as magnets that pull dirt from the surface of your skin. You can imagine how awesome this news is if you want to keep your skin squeaky clean.

Now, what are some micellar water benefits you should know?
  • It can be used as a cleanser. Even though we’d suggest you use an actual cleanser after using the micellar water, the water can work alone. Especially for normal skin types (we’ll explain why later). Add it to your morning routine to quickly freshen up your skin before you head out.
  • Since micellar water has micelles working on its side, it is great for removing makeup. The micelles attract leftover makeup, dirt and oil to the skin’s surface and removes them.
  • Micellar water can be the first step in your double cleansing ritual. Start off by cleaning off any makeup, dirt or oil with the micellar water, and then follow up with a cleanser. The combination will give you a cleanse like no other.
  • Touch up, anyone? Let’s say you need to touch up your lipstick, eyeshadow or eyeliner, micellar water can help with that. Because it is so great at removing makeup, you can target areas you’d like to touch up or correct. Just dip a cotton bud in micellar water and wipe away.

But there’s a tincy wincy problem

Even though loads of people swear that micellar water works wonders for cleansing the skin, it shouldn’t be used instead of a cleanser. Cleansers, depending on the brand and formula, contain ingredients that penetrate the skin and cleanse the pores. But micellar water only works on the surface of the skin. This basically means, you get a deeper cleanse with an actual cleansing product.

Also, it can leave residue on the skin while cleansing. This would spell disaster for anyone with sensitive or acne-prone skin. But as long as you follow up with a cleanser to get those pores clean, this solution is definitely one your beauty shelf needs.
