A pregnant mother-of-five has been shot dead with a crossbow while doing the washing up, leaving her baby fighting for life when he was delivered by cesarean section. Sana Muhammad’s ex-husband Ramanodge Unmathallegadoo has been charged with her murder at her home in Ilford, east London. Her husband Imtiaz has spoken about his heartbreak at losing his ‘wonderful wife’ and is now at his son Ibrahim’s side.

He told the Evening Standard: ‘I went to put a cardboard box in the shed. He was there with the crossbow loaded. ‘He stared at me, he was going to shoot so I ran into the house. My wife was doing the washing up, I was shouting “run, run run”.

‘He shot her. I can’t help thinking she took my arrow. Maybe it should have hit me. The kids were all there, it was horrific.’ Ramanodge, 50, was arrested following the attack at 7.40am, and is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court this afternoon. A witness said: ‘I watched what happened – the husband Imtiaz came out the house screaming for help – he was banging on doors.

‘We called the police and they were there quick, by the time they arrived the ex-husband of Sana came out with his hands up and surrendered. ‘I said to the man ‘why did you do this’ to which he said ‘I came to find my wife and kill her husband’.

‘Then I told him Sana was pregnant and his face dropped, he did not know what he had done. ‘There was a woman tenant living with the family – she told me the ex-husband came into the house armed with two great black crossbows. ‘She told me Sana was shot as she ran up the stairs, the dart passed through her thigh from behind into her stomach.

‘The kids were all there and they were crying for help. ‘Imtiaz had gone to put a cardboard TV box in his garage and he found the ex husband standing there.

‘It was 7.30am, so the devil must have been there in the night, laying in wait.’
