Two people have been killed and at least eight others are injured following a shooting in France. Police rushed to the scene near a Christmas market in Place Kleber, Strasbourg, following reports of gunfire. The gunman is still said to be on the run in the area, however he has been identified and is known to police for criminal activity.

France’s interior minister said at least two people have been killed in the shooting and up to eight have been wounded – with several in critical condition. He warned the public to ‘remain indoors’ amid `serious security event’ in the city.

Videos taken show a woman screaming and others running for cover. Local journalist Bruno Poussard said that there had been a dozen shots fired. A source at the prosecutor’s office said the motive behind the shooting was not immediately clear and that an investigation was under way to see if it was terrorism-related.
