2018 is coming very quickly to an end, bringing to a close another twelve months of dramatic weddings, lavish ceremonies and the most radiant, most extravagant celebrations of love.

As the year comes to a fanfare end, we set out on a recap of the most tremendous weddings had by ”had by the upper class of Nigerian society.

Between January and December 2018, here are our favourite society weddings:

1. Fatima Dangote and Jamil Abubakar

March 2018 can never be spoken of without a mention of the wedding that rent the airwaves, shut down the Internet and held our attention for several days on end – not that we complained!

Fatima Dangote, daughter of Aliko, Africa’s richest man, stunted on us at her super-lavish wedding with Jamil Abubakar. From Kaduna to Lagos, the ceremonies stretched for days on end, brought together the best of socialites, politicians, celebrities, a cross-generation of A-list-musicians and society’s finest.

If there ever was a wedding that fits the bill for lavish to the hilt, Fatima and Jamil’s has to be it!

Class, charm, affluence, fairytale, romance, fun parties, celebrities, society’s most elite, love, life and everything in between… really what’s there to not love about #Famil2018?

Vice President Osinbajo’s family also had a share of the society wedding cake to bake this year – and the VP’s wife actually stepped up to the challenge personally when their first born daughter and Seun Bakare, the love of her life tied the knot earlier in the year!

This is another wedding that lit up the month of March with a lot of family moments, amazing photo memories and the best of love and happiness.

It may be nowhere Fatima Dangote’s in pomp and glitz, but it was surely beautiful and full of life in its own way.

3. Hauwa Indimi and Mohammed Yar’Adua

Billionaire Mohammed Indimi’s daughter, Hauwa, and Mohammed Yar’Adua, the love of her life, took their wedding vows in July 2018 and apart from the magnificence of the huge ceremony itself, another thing that stood out was the couple’s beauty.

The delectable bride and her man looked the part as they got hitched in Maiduguri in a series of events from the Kamu, to the Wushe Wushe [a ceremony peculiar to Maiduguri weddings] Wedding Fatiha and the wedding dinner.

We couldn’t stop imagining all the cute kids their marriage was to be littered with. We actually still can’t!

The former governor’s son, who is a farmer and farm to table restaurant owner, and his equally health-conscious bae took their wedding vows in November, creating unforgettable memories with a romantic ceremony and a lit wedding party in Lagos.

The spectacular ceremony was held over two days with the white wedding ceremony being held in the prestigious Eko Hotel. The white wedding, which had a Great Gatsby theme, brought Victoria Island to a standstill as celebrities, friends and dignitaries turned up to celebrate with the newlyweds.

The former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission gave out his second daughter’s hand in marriage in November and it was a party well attended by political heavyweights and socialites alike.

From Ex-presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, to Patience Jonathan, Gbenga Daniel and a host of others. The wedding was certainly one for the books as guests party well into the early hours of the morning and alcohol flowed endlessly, Now, THAT is how you celebrate your nuptials.
