At first, we thought maxi dresses were bold and dramatic until style stars took it up a notch wearing super-sized yet elegant dresses. Award nights, VIP events had fashionistas showing up unapologetically in these bold takes. The trend moved from maxi dresses to what we call “the big dress energy” and this season will feature more of this super-sized, dramatic dresses!

The BDE trend became a thing when Hollywood stars graced the red carpet in dramatic tulles with super long trains. We knew our celebs here loved the trend when Lala Akindoju showed up at the AFRIFF (African International Film Festival) in a custom Jane Michael Ekanem set.

Creed star, Tessa Thompson showed off her BDE at the European premiere of Creed wearing a custom Maison Valentino dress. The dress featured a halterneck with side pockets and huge pleat at the hemline.
