Lamar Odom returning to professional basketball 3 years after near-fatal overdose

Lamar Odom has announced his return to basketball three years after suffering a near-fatal overdose. The 39-year-old athlete, who was married to Khloe Kardashian between 2009 and 2016, suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks while in a coma after being found unresponsive in a Nevada brothel in 2015.

Dubbing his return his ‘comeback life chapter’, Lamar revealed has signed a deal with Philippines-based Mighty Sports and will make his official outing with the team on 1 February 2019 at The Dubai International Basketball Championship.

Confirming the news on Instagram, Lamar wrote: ‘I’d like to announce that I will be playing in The Dubai International Basketball Championship this February 1st 2019 !!!!!!!

I will be representing team @mightysports_ph from the Philippines with my 4ever #7 ! To me this is a great warming up for the @thebig3 !! [sic]’

Lamar previously played for the Los Angeles Lakers in America’s NBA, where he won the championships in 2009 and 2010 and was named the NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2011
