A mother has given birth to a record-breakingly large 14-pound 13-ounce baby boy. Jennifer Medlock’s son Ali is the heaviest baby ever born at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Texas, and is also the largest ever welcomed by the doctor in charge of his delivery.

Jennifer and husband Eric Medlock welcomed Ali on December 12, and expected him to weigh in around the 10-pound mark, just as their now two year-old daughter was when she was born.

But the couple, who both work as music teachers, were shocked when doctors told her just how big Ali – who measured 21.5 inches at birth –  was. Jennifer told USA Today: ‘We did not expect 14 pounds. Nobody did.’

Jennifer delivered Ali by Caesarian section. She previously gave birth to her daughter Annabelle in the same way. Afterwards, Ali was taken to the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit with low blood sugar and platelet levels, caused by his larger than average size. Happily, his health soon improved, and he was allowed home with his mom on December 19.
