Some suspected members of Eiye Confraternity have reportedly killed a barber at Mile 12 area of Lagos State for allegedly harbouring Aiye members in his shop. The victim, identified simply as Afeez, drew the ire of the cultists for allegedly allowing Aiye members to sit in his shop.
The incident, which caused apprehension in the community, occurred on January 6 at Akorounfayo Street, Mile 12.
Meanwhile, the leader Aiye Confraternity identified as Timo, was killed on Thursday last week at Moro Junction, also in Mile 12 area.
“The barber had locked his shop and was about to go home when the Eiye cult group members, who rode on motorbike to his shop, shot at him and escaped. “Immediately after they shot him, the cultists escaped. It was after the attack that some members of Aiye said Afeez was killed because they usually sit in his shop.
“Unfortunately, he was not a cult member. It was because of the snooker they usually come to play in his shop that they thought he was an Aiye member. They have wasted an innocent boy for nothing.
“Since the attack we have been living in fear; we couldn’t sleep with our eyes closed. We need police patrol in our community,” a witness, who gave his name as Abdulateef, said.
A resident, Mrs. Modupe Adelaja, said the barber shop was a busy place where youths in the community usually converge to play different games. She said: “It is just unfortunate that Afeez was killed for nothing. “We have been battling with cult-related issues in Mile 12 area for long. We want police urgent intervention in the community and its environs.
“The cultists had been killing themselves for long, but what we don’t want is the death of innocent souls. We want a peaceful community that is why we are appealing for more police patrol in our community.”
Timo, the leader of the Aiye, was said to be returning from a birthday party when he was killed. It was learnt that Mile 12 area has been under the siege of cultists.
A woman, who gave her name as Mama Bose, said she had taken her son out of the community for fear of bad influence of the cultists.
She said: “I took my only son out of the community because I don’t want the bad boys to influence him; that was why I relocated him to Osun State to live with my younger brother. I don’t want the various cult groups to lure him to their side.”
