A man accused of stabbing an IT consultant to death in front of his teenage son on a train has been pictured for the first time. Darren Shane Pencille, 35, appeared in court on Monday charged with the murder of Lee Pomeroy, 51, and possessing an offensive weapon. Mr Pomery died after being stabbed nine times in front of his 14-year-old son as they travelled on the South Western Railway service from Guildford to Waterloo last Friday.

Pencille’s girfriend, Chelsea Mitchell, 27, allegedly drove him to safety as he fled and has been charged with assisting an offender. Earlier today the defendent wore glasses and a prison-issue grey tracksuit during an appearance at Staines Magistrates’ Court and hunched over in his chair, claiming he was ‘too paranoid’ to stand up and was ‘hearing voices.’

He did not enter any pleas and told chair of the bench Helen Mattey: ‘I’m innocent until proven guilty’. The pair were remanded in custody and later both appeared at Guildford Crown Court in the afternoon. Mitchell blew a kiss to people in the public gallery as she left the dock following a brief hearing.
