According to reports, a self-proclaimed witch doctor is currently on the run after he failed to lift a spell he cast to kill a man who stole at a funeral on January 18, 2019.

The voodoo performer is said to have pocketed KSh 48, 000 for performing a ritual that would undo his own spell against 33-year-old Geoffrey Onoka who stole and his accomplice in Homa Bay, Kenya.

It was gathered that the 33-year-old man who allegedly stole KSh 56,000 raised by mourners at the funeral died during the performance, prompting villagers to demand for the sorcerer’s fees back.

The family of the late, Peter Angira, from whose funeral the money was stolen, had to face the wrath of angry villagers who demanded Angira’s family recalls the witch doctor to resurrect Onoka.

They dumped Onoka’s body at their door step, beat them senseless and set two houses ablaze after efforts to get the voodoo performer failed.

The villagers were demanding either the deceased be brought back to life or his family be given the KSh 48, 000 the witch doctor pocketed to protect him from death. “You either bring him back to life or we lynch you here and now, please do not waste time,” they threatened before they went berserk and reigned terror on the village.

The voodoo performer from Uyoma, Siaya County had performed his sorcery on the man and promised that it would lift the spell the witch doctor cast on him.

This was after the villagers had sought the medicine man’s services and he claimed the thieves from a neghbouring village would all mysteriously die one after the other. On the day he performed the spell, Onoka did not return home, only to be found unconscious nearly five kilometres from his home on Monday, January 21.

He was taken to hospital but his condition deteriorated, prompting the family to believe it may have been the spell they heard had been cast on him.

On Tuesday, January 22, they called the healer to perform a cleansing ceremony which he did and promised no harm would come to him. Police had to intervene to quell the tension and took Onoka’s body even as the family swore it would not bury him until the matter is resolved.
