A teacher has been arrested after investigators say she had sex with a 15-year-old former student at her Corydon home. Oldham County Schools says she works at South Oldham High School in Kentucky, USA.

Police say the incident took place on March 2, 2018, when the boy, who was 15 at the time, was spending the weekend at the home of then 39-year-old Amy Hamilton, who lives in Harrison County, Indiana.

Hamilton met the boy when she was teaching at Stuart Pepper Middle School in Brandenburg and the boy was her former student, according to Harrison County Prosecutor Otto Schalk.

Court documents say the boy said Hamilton gave him about nine beers during the night, while she drank several bottles of wine.

Police say the boy claimed he, “initiated the physical contact earlier in the day,” and Hamilton, “resisted his advances.” But as the night wore on, Hamilton allegedly “re-initiated the sexual contact, and led him to her bedroom” where they had sex.

Hamilton admitted that the boy spent the night at her home, but denied giving him any alcoholic beverage or having any sexual relationship.

But police say they discovered messages between Hamilton and the boy on the boy’s cell phone. Those messages alluded to the intimate sexual relationship, according to court documents.

“These are serious allegations that are magnified by the employment of Ms. Hamilton, and we anticipate moving swiftly as we pursue a conviction,” Schalk said. “I believe she’s been a career school teacher and so she has had a teaching career that spans several years.”

Hamilton, now 40 years old, was arrested after turning herself in and charged with engaging in sexual misconduct with a minor as well as contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

“We did not pursue a crime related to child seduction where there was a direct teacher-student relationship because that relationship had ended at the time during this alleged misconduct,” Shalk said. He says Hamilton is a biology teacher.

The Director of Communications for Oldham County Schools released a statement saying, “Amy Hamilton is not at school today. This information is new to us, but we will take the appropriate actions to ensure the safety of our students.”

Hamilton has since bonded out of jail. She’s expected to appear in court on Feb. 19. She could not be reached for comment on this story.
