Manchester United have been charged by Uefa after plastic bottles were thrown at PSG ace Angel Di Maria.

Some United fans could not contain their anger at the Old Trafford flop who starred as the French side eased to their 2-0 Champions League victory.

Di Maria, who had appeared to mouth obscenities to the United fans who had booed him throughout following PSG’s opener, was pelted as he prepared to take a corner in the second half.

The incident was noted by the match officials and Uefa’s delegate and United have now been charged with throwing objects and for fans blocking stairways. They are likely to be fined.

PSG themselves face four charges for fan misbehaviour, with the club set to be fined for setting off fireworks, throwing objects, damaging the stadium and “crowd disturbance”.

Di Maria’s conduct has not been mentioned and there will be no action against the Argentine.

The matters will be dealt with by Uefa’s control, ethics and disciplinary body on February 28, which is also the date European football chiefs will determine the punishment Chelsea face for the racist chants by their fans in the Europa League game at Vidi in December.
