A Washington High School teacher accused of having intercourse with a student was charged with two new counts of sexual assault on Friday, the State Attorney’s Office confirmed.

Mark Lua, 30, has been arrested three times since Jan. 17, and the allegations in all of the cases are that Lua had inappropriate contact or communication with juvenile females.

Lua’s most recent arrest was Wednesday, after a Washington High School student came forward and said Lua had sexually battered her and sent her obscene communications. The student reportedly claimed Lua pressured her to have sex with him because his pregnant wife was unable to.

Lua has remained in jail since Wednesday, but is scheduled to appear before a judge over the weekend to discuss whether he will receive a bond on his most recent charges.

The student’s accusations against Lua this week launched two separate investigations resulting in two separate sets of charges. The Pensacola Police Department reviewed claims Lua sent inappropriate messages, and the department’s findings led to Lua’s arrest Wednesday for allegedly using a computer to solicit a child and using a two-way device to facilitate a felony.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office looked into the rape allegations because the incident reportedly occurred outside of city limits. Documents detailing the Sheriff’s Office’s investigation were not immediately available Friday afternoon, but the State Attorney’s Office confirmed deputies served Lua with two new warrants for sexual assault Friday morning.
