A serial killer recently released from prison for murdering his brothers has been arrested for allegedly wiping out the rest of his family.

Sinasi Gurkan killed his family members for not protecting his wife, who was murdered two years ago while he was in jail, according to local reports.

The incident took place in the district of Sisli in the north-western Turkish city of Istanbul one year after Sinasi Gurkan served his 16-year sentence for killing his two brothers in a row over money.

According to local media, he started living with his two sons in the district of Esenyurt, however, three days ago he reportedly went on a killing spree that began with his brother-in-law Alihan Tiz and his brother-in-law’s son Erdal Tiz.

After visiting their home and shooting them, Gurkan then travelled across town to his remaining brother Muhendis’ home and shot him in his car before fleeing the scene.

Police investigating the killings went to interrogate Gurkan at the address in Esenyurt, however when they got there they found the dead bodies of his own two sons, 21-year-old Goksal and 16-year-old Gokmen.

Police then launched a manhunt for the serial killer after suspecting him of being responsible for the deaths of the five.

According to reports, officers tracked down his car and a car chase followed, that ended when Gurkan jumped out of his vehicle and tried to run away on foot, with the police capturing the suspect and bringing him in for questioning.

Reports said that Gurkan confessed to the murders and said that he did it because his relatives failed to properly care for his wife.

The unnamed woman was murdered two years ago while Gurkan was still serving his sentence.

The investigation continues.
