A man caught taking a upskirting picture at a train station claimed someone else had taken the 30 similar images found on his mobile, a court heard.

Neil Abbott, 32, appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court in England to admit outraging public decency after snapping the woman while she was queuing for food.

Abbott insisted he had downloaded the others because he got a kick from looking at them.

Jennifer Fadaka, prosecuting, said: ‘On the 25 August 2018 the complainant was in the queue at Mi Casa at Liverpool Street Station after a night out.

‘An eyewitness saw the defendant approach the complainant, place his phone under her skirt and take a photo without her knowledge.

‘The witness mentioned to the complainant ‘that man has just taken a photo of you’.

‘The complainant made station staff aware and was speaking to staff with a shaking voice. She said she was repulsed.

‘The defendant was stopped by officers and it was clear to police he was drunk as they could smell alcohol, his eyes were red and he was unstable on his feet.

‘The photo clearly showed her crotch and vaginal area. The complainant was wearing a red skirt at the time and the woman in the picture was also wearing a red skirt.

‘He asked officers could he not just delete the picture and said he had learned his lesson.’ ‘His phone was later examined and other similar photos were found on it, 32 photos were found taken between 9 May 2018 and 25 August 2018.’

Claire McGrath, defending, told the court that Abbott was highly remorseful and committed the offence when he was too drunk to even try to be subtle.

She said: ‘Although we of course accept this is a serious and unpleasant matter it is in fact one offence on one occasion. ‘I can honestly say he has learned his lesson, he accepted that it was irresponsible for him to do.

Abbott, of Maxwell Road, Romford, admitted one count of outraging public decency.

He will appear again at Westminster Magistrates Court on May 7 for sentence.
