A care worker who had a sexual relationship with a teenage boy now faces being struck off. Kayleigh Martin, 26, met the 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, at a residential centre which offers support for troubled teenagers and young adults.

They exchanged explicit messages before carrying out sex acts in the Lanarkshire-based unit until the affair came to the light and her bosses called in police.

She was arrested in July last year and denied allegations of engaging in sexual activity with the boy at Lanark Sheriff Court, Scotland.

But she was convicted and found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with the teenager while in a position of trust and sending a sexual communication following a trial.

Her registration to work as a residential child care worker has been suspended for six months while the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) investigate her fitness to practice.

Martin now works in retail but the SSSC have taken steps to remove her registration after being told about her court case.

It could see her banned from working in the care profession again.

Sheriff Nikola Stewart placed her under supervision for two years and ordered her to carry out 250 hours unpaid work.

Martin, of Hamilton, Lanarkshire, was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for two years and banned from contacting the teen.
