Maryam Sanda murdering her husband was a tragedy. Maryam Sanda getting sentenced to death for that crime, a tragedy. There is a child involved who potentially has tragically lost both parents just like that.
The mother of two was being prosecuted by the federal government over her alleged complicity in the death of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello. It all happened in 2017.
Maryam said while using her late husband’s phone to make a call on November 18, 2017, she discovered a nude picture of a lady on the phone and she confronted her husband about it and an argument began. She said she told her late husband to divorce but Bilyaminu held her neck, and she started choking.

Later that evening around 11pm, they had another argument when she went to take her charger in the living room. While they were at it, he pushed her she mistakenly broke his Shisha bottle and the water inside spilled on the floor.
While Bilyaminu pinned her to the ground, she heard their daughter crying, and she begged him that she needed to attend to their daughter but while trying to hold her, the deceased fell down, but he was pretending. She noticed he was holding his chest and a broken bottle in his chest which she removed and covered the chest with her scarf.
She called for help and along with one Ayuba they took her husband to Abuja Clinic, where the late Bilyaminu was confirmed dead, he was later taken to the Maitama General Hospital, where he was also confirmed dead.
From the hospital, she said that she was taken to the Maitama police station where she wrote her statement.
She refuted the evidence of two of the prosecution witnesses that she and her husband started quarrelling on the fateful day since morning and that she threatened to kill him.
She also said she never asked for divorce before the unfortunate incident,but did on the issue of the nude picture sent to him by another lady.
Today 27th of January 2020, the Federal Capital Territory High Court, found Maryam Sanda guilty of killing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello. Ms Sanda was sentenced to death by hanging by the judge and she wept uncontrollably.
The Personal Assistant on New Media to president Buhari, Bashir Ahmad tweeted:
I feel so sorry and sad for Maryam Sanda’s daughter, growing up to understand such devastating incidences will not going to be easy. May Allah give her the strength and be with her. Thoughts and prayers have been with Bilyaminu and Maryam’s families. May Allah comfort them.
Lesson from this is to learn to walk out of abusive marriage. Killing your spouse won’t solve the problem. She sinned, regretted her act, she prayed, God listened, She got the sentence. God’s will She said “innalillahi wa Inna-ilaihi raji-oon” God recorded. She said “Hasbunallahu wa ni’imal wakil” God affirmed.
The sad end
Perhaps what unfolded was the best for Maryam Sanda. She was sentenced to death by hanging.
In all of this, the lady who came between Maryam Sanda and her husband, is somewhere in the world now looking for another married man.
