WhatsApp – a Facebook-owned instant messaging app – is set to update a new version of the app that will see a number of old phones no longer supporting WhatsApp.

A new WhatsApp update will come on the 1st of January 2021, affecting both Android and iPhone devices that are running older mobile operating systems.

If you are one of many still using some of these phones – its best to buy a new phone or update a newer version of your operating system.

For Android phones, all phones running Android 4.0.3 – to lower versions will no longer be able to open WhatsApp. This includes Samsung Galaxy S2 to lower phones and HTC Desire mobiles among many.

While for iOS devices, any phone that doesn’t run iOS 9 or any of the newer versions will not be able to use WhatsApp.

That means iPhone phones that were running lower versions of iOS 9 – whose operating system can still be upgraded; the likes of iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S, can still be updated to iOS9 so to support WhatsApp.
