Nigerian superstars Tiwa Savage and Seyi Shay got into a trash talk fight in a hair salon on 8 June 2021. This seems to be the first time Savage and Shay have said hello since Kizz Daniel’s viral #FvckYouChallenge in 2019, during which Shay and Victoria Kimani appeared to take aim at the ‘African Bad Gyal’.
According to eyewitnesses, Shay went over to greet Ms Savage, who declined the greeting and chose the occasion to air her grievances. Tiwa Savage claimed that Seyi Shay had no right to approach her and greet her, given what she and Victoria Kimani had done to her in the past.
A little backstory to the beef…
In January 2019, Kizz Daniel started the #FvckYouChallenge viral challenge. The song was a purge for Daniel, who addressed a cheating ex with some slut-shaming.
Other celebrities, such as Tiwa Savage, Seyi Shay, and Kimani, then joined in on the fun. Savage chronicled the affairs of a cheating ex she sent to Canada with her money in a song released in March 2019. She also sang about her ex, who still owes money for 50 bottles at Club Xscape, a Lagos nightclub. Many speculated at the time that the shots in the song were aimed at her ex-husband, Tunji Balogun. The rumours were quickly debunked.
Here is how Kimani dissed Tiwa Savage in her #FvckYouChallenge verse:
Grandma African Bad Gyal
Turning 45 you still think that you a bad girl

We all know you selling p**sy and it’s so depressing
From an understanding of the lyrics above, Kimani turns her aim at Tiwa Savage, accusing her of blocking her (Victoria Kimani) from landing shows. What did they say about women being their own worst enemies? Victoria Kimani did not hide her seeming dislike for Tiwa Savage behind metaphors. She explicitly used her moniker and took several jabs at Savage.
Seyi Shay also dissed Tiwa Savage in her #FvckYouChallenge verse:
You say you be my sister, but you wan collect my lover
You be deceiver, olofofo heart robber
Na why I no dey fuck you anymore
I no get time for you anymore
You know I’m not Savage, I dey pay my bills
You no go see my name for the Xscape
But [Prostitute] come be your hobby
Na so you come take first rate their hobby
Both Kimani and Seyi Shey have alleged that Tiwa Savage was trying to block other women in the industry.
However, Tiwa Savage had this to say to Seyi Shey in the salon:
“Don’t come to me and think you can say hi with the dirty and disgusting spirit that you have. You think I have forgotten what you guys did? You did a whole song; you and that b*tch did a whole song. You went on interviews and said shit about me and I didn’t say anything.”
“I have never slept with your man. I have never taken a job from you. I have never gone on the radio to say sht. You don’t try and squash sht by saying hi,” Savage continued.
