The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has released the corpse of a 34-year-old football enthusiast, Emmanuel Samuel, allegedly killed by a policeman in Abuja.

PUNCH Metro had reported that the deceased, with his fiancée and friends, went to watch a football match on July 11 when a policeman allegedly shot him after he cautioned the cop against accidental discharge.

The family had also accused police authorities of holding on to Emmanuel’s body since his death.

But the deceased’s elder sister, Veronica, on Wednesday told our correspondent that his body was released on Tuesday.

She added that the family had lost hope of getting justice on the matter.

Veronica said, “The family was frustrated with the case. So, I went to meet the police officer in charge of the case. She said we would have to do an autopsy. I told her that my family cannot foot the bill. She told me to write to them and also get an affidavit for the release of the corpse which I did. They released the corpse for me on Tuesday.

“The bill in the hospital is so much, I don’t know how we would pay that. The money is about N73,500. We are still in need of money to buy a coffin and transport his remains to our hometown in Kaduna.

“For now, all hope is lost. We know God will fight for us. We have tried to follow up on the case but there is no one to help.”
