The police in Rivers State have exhumed the decomposing remains of a 56-year-old cleric, Friday Olakada, who was killed by his kidnappers after they collected N500,000 ransom.

Olakada was the General Overseer of God is God Ministry located in Agbonchia, Eleme Local Government Area of the state.

The victim, a father of six, was abducted at Eleme junction, near Port Harcourt on May 14, 2021 by a four-man gang who pretended to hire his car to pick some property in Lorre community. The gang held him in captivity, killed him and buried his corpse in a shallow grave in the forest.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Friday Eboka, who led journalists to the forest in Lorre community, where the victim’s body was exhumed, said the hoodlums killed the pastor to cover their tracks.

Eboka said with the help of technology, operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit tracked the kidnappers to their hideout.

He said, “On May 14, 2021, a young man by name, Friday Olakada, who was a pastor and owned a church called God is God Ministry at Eleme was kidnapped by four young men who took him from Eleme to this village called Lorre in Ogoniland. Along the line, they entered into a negotiation and demanded a ransom from the family, but we didn’t get to know about the case immediately.”
