There is nothing to celebrate – Seun Kuti writes on Independence day

Amid the Independence day celebration today October 1, singer Seun Kuti has said that there is nothing to celebrate as the country is near collapse.

He noted that the country produces enough to feed its citizens, but Nigerians are forced to beg for food aid due to lack of organization. The singer averred that it is this aid that instills in us the attitude of begging.

Kuti further stated that with the worrisome level of hunger, insecurity, high rate of unemployment, and wanton looting, the celebration of today’s anniversary calls for a sober reflection and the need to reorganize ourselves to get involved in the democratic process with the view to set the Nation on the road to recovery.

Recounting how the poverty level in 1960 was 15% in contrast to today’s 50%, the singer urged Nigerians to engage in the voters registration process as 2023 election has given us an ample opportunity as a people to collectively unite using the M.O.P as a platform to dislodge dealers called leaders.
