Hope at last: Ukraine and Russia to meet for peace talks

Vladimir Putin has put Russian nuclear deterrent forces on high alert as the furious leader hits out at the West.

Putin told state TV that NATO powers have made “aggressive statements” along with the West imposing hard-hitting financial sanctions against Russia, including the president himself.

It comes as Dmytro Kuleba, the foreign minister of Ukraine, has said that Russia using nuclear weapons on Ukraine would be a “catastrophe for the world”.

This morning Russian troops and tanks entered Kharkiv triggering a fight on the streets for Ukraine‘s second city, only for the invading forces to be repelled.

In a sign that the conflict may escalate, a senior military official told the Mirror that Belarus was launching an air assault on Kyiv.

As the fighting continues, Putin is said to be “furious” that his invasion of Ukraine hasn’t been “easy”.

A fresh wave of sanctions against Russia is set to kick in this weekend with the hope they will cripple the country’s economy and force Putin to withdraw his troops.
