NUJ mourn ace journalist, Shola Ilesanmi
An award-winning journalist in Ondo State, Shola Ilesanmi, who was a correspondent with the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, is dead.
Ilesanmi gave up the ghost on Tuesday after a brief illness
While describing the death of the journalist, who was a staff of the state-owned television station, OSRC, radio station, Orange FM, as an enterprising and resourceful young man whose passion for journalism was immeasurable, the state government said “his quest to seek news stories in most unusual sniff-moves was evidently legendary.”
The condolence message signed by the Commissioner for Information, Donald Ojogo, stated that Ilesanmi, who was a talented “young man” with clear vision and purpose will be sorely missed.
“The state government commiserates with the immediate family of the deceased, particularly his young wife, family, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ondo State Council, friends and colleagues.”
Also, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ondo State Council, which described Ilesanmi as one of the brightest journalists in the state, said he was a “very hard working, brilliant and caring media person to the core.
According to the NUJ, the development was no doubt another dark day and one of the saddest periods in the journalism industry in the state.
The NUJ in a statement signed by the Chairman, Adetona Aderoboye and the State Secretary, Leke Adegbite, stated that the deceased would be missed by virtually all sectors and “prominent people in the state and beyond.”
“Sola, who died during over a month of an undisclosed illness, had always been an excellent personality in whatever he did especially during his days at schools, journalism profession and even in his church.”
