Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink ‘not convinced’ Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus will ever be a 20-goal striker

Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink admits he’s ‘not convinced’ that Gabriel Jesus will ever become a 20-goal-a-season striker, despite his fantastic start to life at Arsenal.

The Brazilian put in a fine display in what was a frustrating day for the Gunners, who saw their 100% start to the season come to an end with a 3-1 defeat at Old Trafford.

Nevertheless, Jesus was a constant threat for the visitors and continued his excellent start to the campaign by giving Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane a difficult afternoon at the Theatre of Dreams.

Jesus has bagged three times in six matches for the Gunners and he had been a crucial part of the side that had gone unbeaten until today’s game.

However, speaking to Sky Sports, Hasselbaink says Jesus doesn’t get in enough scoring positions and he’s not convinced he will ever become a 20-goal-a-season striker.

He’s come in [and scored] three goals, made chances, made others around him play better,’ said Hasselbaink.

I’m still not convinced he will be 20 goals a season because if he was that then why did he not do that at Man City in a better team?

‘I think he had enough opportunities [at Man City]. He is not somebody that scores goals out and out and out.

‘He’s somebody that loves scoring goals and likes to link up, he’s been brilliant at it, very strong, holding the ball up.

‘He’s got three goals in five matches – which is brilliant – but you expect him to score more goals. He’s a great signing.’

Speaking later in the show, the Chelsea legend doubled down on his stance and said Jesus needs to get in more scoring positions.

‘Then you go back to Jesus,’ said Hasselbaink.

‘He needs to come here and he’s playing well he needs to score. He needs to find a moment to score. Those are the things.’
