‘Riverdale’ star, Ryan Grantham, gets life imprisonment for killing his mum

Ryan Grantham, the Canadian actor, has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his mother.

The 24-year-old was sentenced at the British Columbia supreme court in Vancouver on Wednesday.

The sentence was handed down after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

In March 2020 — when Grantham was aged 21 — the actor shot Barbara Wait, his mother, in the head as she played piano.

In a video taken on his camera after the killing, the young actor filmed his mother’s corpse.

“I shot her in the back of the head. In the moments after, she would have known it was me,” he said.

It was alleged that he had planned to kill Justin Trudeau, the Canadian prime minister.

The actor had, after killing his mother, loaded his car with three guns, ammunition, and 12 Molotov cocktails.

He packed camping supplies and a map with directions to Rideau Cottage where Trudeau lived with his family.

It was reported that he drove roughly 200 kilometres east to the town of Hope, before turning around and driving to a Vancouver police station where he turned himself in and admitted to his crime.

The court, during one of its sittings on the actor’s case, heard that Grantham had considered committing an act of mass violence at Vancouver’s Lions Gate Bridge or at Simon Fraser University where he had been a student.

During the trial, his lawyers argued he had been suicidal while struggling with clinical depression.

Grantham played Jeffery Augustine in the teen drama ‘Riverdale’.

He also featured in the fantasy drama ‘Supernatural’ as well the 2010 film ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’.
