Tom Cruise sets to become first actor to shoot movie in space

Tom Cruise, the award-winning US film star, is set to become the first actor to shoot a movie in the outer space.

Outer space, simply referred to as space, is the expanse that exists beyond earth and its atmosphere and between celestial bodies.

Donna Langley, chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group (UFEG), announced Cruise’s forthcoming feat in a recent interview with BBC.

According to Langley, Cruise and Doug Liman, the movie director, first pitched the idea to her via Zoom during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

She said Cruise plans to take a rocket up to the International Space Station.

Langley added that the movie’s plot “actually takes place on earth, and then the character needs to go up to space to save the day”.

“I think Tom Cruise is taking us to space, he’s taking the world to space. That’s the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom … Taking a rocket up to the Space Station and shooting,” she said.

It is understood that the proposed historic project is still undergoing consideration by Universal.

Commenting on the initiative, Langley expressed optimism that Cruise will be “the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside of the space station”.

It remains to be seen if Universal will eventually approve the project or not.
