Funke Akindele runs back to content creation after defeat at the polls

Weeks after suffering defeat at the Lagos governorship elections, award winning actress and record breaking producer, Funke Akindele has returned to creating content on social media.

The popular Nigerian actress, director, and producer who is adored by many for her skills and capacity to make people laugh unfortunately lost in the most recent Lagos state gubernatorial elections.

She recently suffered a loss in her bid for the position of deputy governor in the 2023 Lagos State gubernatorial elections. The announcement of her loss was met with mixed reactions from her fans and supporters.

On behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), one of the largest political parties in Nigeria, Funke Akindele announced her desire to compete for deputy governor. She had attracted a lot of attention and support from her supporters, who thought she might give Nigerian politics a new viewpoint.

Many of Funke Akindele’s admirers and supporters who had rallied behind her in the hope that she would win the election were disappointed by her defeat. The actress, however, received the news well and thanked everyone for their support throughout her campaign.

Funke Akindele’s loss in the Lagos State gubernatorial elections is a reminder that politics can be a tough game, and winning elections requires more than just popularity or celebrity status. It requires a solid campaign strategy, a clear vision, and the ability to connect with voters on a personal level.

However, her decision to run for office also shows the importance of citizen participation in politics. Funke Akindele’s candidacy served as a wake-up call to Nigerians to get involved in the political process and to use their platforms to make a positive impact on their communities.

Recall that in July 2022, Funke Akindele said she’s putting her acting career on hold while she plays an active role in Lagos State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship race.

Intimating the public about her deputy governorship candidacy, which has not been officially announced by the PDP, in a video posted on social media on Tuesday, the actress said that her acting career must be “necessarily put on hold”.

According to Akindele, this was a sacrifice she had to make to “rescue” the people of Lagos State.
