Chris Mba, the ace pop singer famous in the 80s for his classics including ‘Baby Don’t Cry’, has passed away.

The singer died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital on Wednesday.

Michael Odiong, the general manager of Premier Records, Mba’s former label, confirmed his demise in a statement via social media.

Odiong said Mba passed away after a long battle with heart issues.

The label executive described Mba as “a talented artiste who added local instruments into his music to give it an African feel”.

He also offered his condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for them to find the strength to cope with their loss.

“The management of Premier Records Ltd has expressed sadness on the demise of one of its artistes, Mr. Chris Mba, who passed on yesterday 3rd May 2023 after a long battle with heart issues,” the statement reads.

“Chris Mba was a bundle of talent who localised pop music by adding local instruments into his music to give the African feel.

“He made waves in the late 80s up to the 90s where he released hits like ‘Baby Don’t Cry’, ‘Money’ etc.

“We condole with the family and pray God gives them the fortitude to bear the loss.”

The deceased singer had solicited financial aid in 2019 after he disclosed his battle with heart disease.
