Young, bold, and resilient, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, portrays the image of a determined lady showing diverse strengths and making a statement.
Hilda runs ‘My Food by Hilda, ’ an excellent restaurant and food delivery service in the heart of Lekki, Lagos. But it was not all smooth from the beginning. The sprawling restaurant finally opened in June 2022, resulting from the resilience of a bold and tenacious woman determined to keep her vision. Before then, she operated ‘My Food by Hilda’ from a tiny apartment for the first two years while pushing most of her sales through delivery.
While on this milestone, Hilda sets the pace by preparing youngsters interested in culinary. She teaches culinary lessons online and physically; the results have been worthwhile.
‘‘My first class was held in February 2021 with 30 students on zoom. From the success record of the teachings, I was inspired and encouraged to do more, especially as more requests kept coming from people willing to join the classes. My latest class has 1989 students, and I am teaching 120 recipes, the highest number to be taught in an online cooking class.’’
Hilda further encourages and empowers her students to participate actively and practice the recipes by rewarding the top students with incentives. The best student from her last class was awarded 1 million naira to support their business. Others got phones and utensils such as Microwaves, Ovens, Blenders, Pots, and toasters.
Hilda’s dedication to providing well-prepared meals extends beyond her role as a food entrepreneur as she holds a strong belief in the fundamental right of everyone to have access to quality meals. During the challenging times of the Covid 19 pandemic, Hilda’s unwavering commitment to social impact drove her to provide over 3,000 meals to underprivileged communities, alleviating some of the difficulties faced by those most in need.
They say food tastes better when you eat together, and Hilda is encouraging that atmosphere with plans to launch more restaurants across Lagos and Nigeria.

Hilda was born to Mr and Mrs Effiong Bassey. There is no information on her siblings.

Guinness World Record
Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci,has embarked on a journey to break the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon.
The cook-a-thon, which began on May 11 and will end on May 14, features a live-streamed show on multiple social media channels where Hilda will make over 250 recipes.
According to Hilda;
The journey to the cook-a-thon started five years ago. It is one of my biggest aspirations and I am glad that I took the bold step to embark on this adventure. I have taken time to prepare for this psychologically and I am proud to finally take on this challenge.
The cook-a-thon is also an opportunity to tell some of the positive stories that come from Africa through the meals that we make.
This attempt is also proof of the strength young people can exhibit with the right platform and support. I look forward to receiving support from people across the world to achieve this feat.
The current record for the world’s longest cooking marathon is held by Lata Tondon, who spent 87 hours, 45 minutes, and 00 seconds cooking in Rewa, India, in 2019.
Hilda’s cook-a-thon is expected to take place at Amore Garden, Lekki, Lagos, and guests are welcome to participate through various side attractions.
