Legendary singer Tina Turner dies at 83

Tina Turner, the legendary singer famous for hits like ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’, ‘Private Dancer’ and ‘The Best,’ has passed away aged 83.

According to a statement released by Bernard Doherty, her spokesperson, the US-born star died peacefully on Wednesday in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland.

“With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model,” the statement added.

Tina, born Anna Mae Bullock, was said to have battled an illness before she passed on.

It was gathered that a private funeral ceremony will be held for close friends and family.

Tina was born on November 26 in 1939 in Nutbush, Tennessee, USA.

She became known in the late 1960s as a member of the music band Ike & Turner Revue.

She would later leave the band to pursue a career as a solo artiste.

Tina first found fame alongside Ike Turner, her ex-husband.

The singer was one of the best-loved female rock singers of her time and was known for her on-stage presence.

Her biggest hits include ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’, ‘Private Dancer,’ ‘Proud Mary,’ ‘Better Be Good To Me,’ and ‘The Best’.

At the 1985 Grammy Awards, ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’ won three awards, for record of the year, song of the year, and best female pop vocal performance.

‘Better Be Good To Me’ also won for best female rock vocal performance.

Tina won 12 Grammy Awards in total and sold out stadiums on tour around the world for over three decades.
