‘What do you stand for?’ – Seun Kuti hits Buhari’s critics over award acceptance

Seun Kuti, the Afrobeat singer, has slammed critics of former president Muhammadu Buhari for accepting national awards from him.

On Sunday, a total of 339 persons were nominated by the federal government to receive national honours.

Davido, Victor Osimhen, and Kunle Afolayan are among the entertainers who made the list.

Emeka Anyaoku, former commonwealth secretary-general, is the sole person nominated for Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), while Godwin Emefiele, governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN); Hadi Sirika, minister of aviation; and Bisi Akande, a former governor of Osun state are listed for the award of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR).

In an Instagram post on Monday, Kuti wondered why some of the recipients who criticised the Buhari-led administration as the “worst ever” didn’t reject the national awards.

“Half of the people criticising this government as the worst thing ever deh go collect award for Abuja from the same government?” Kuti wrote in a mixture of pidgin and English.

“No one will reject it on principle? Or Buhari don legit? Make una just tell me o.

“I dey ask for one presidential candidate like that.

“Next 3 ½ years now we start the same dance again. What do you stand for?”
