Former England U18 hockey player Grace Kumar is stabbed to death in Nottingham rampage

The second university student to be killed in a string of horrific attacks in Nottingham on Tuesday has been named locally as England’s under-18s hockey star Grace Kumar.

Grace, 19, was one of two students from the University of Nottingham who were stabbed to death by a killer dressed in black as they walked home from a night out in the city at 4am this morning.

The attacker later killed a third person, a man in his 50s, before stealing his van and using it to run into three other people, police have said. One man is in a critical condition in hospital.

Hockey player Grace, who has been a star for England’s young hockey programme having been selected on a national level for both the under-16s and under-18s squads, was identified by locals, Nottinghamshire Live reports.

Last night Grace’s grieving family declined to comment from their north-east London home.

She attended Bancroft’s independent school and was England’s top goal scorer in her age category for the 2018-29 season, newsletters from the school show.

At university she continued pursuing the sport, helping the Surbiton ladies’ first team to victories in top UK leagues.

Friend Barnaby Webber, who previously attended Taunton school, was one of the three people to lose their lives in a knife and van rampage in the city in the early hours of the morning.

Tributes to the 19-year-old university freshers have begun pouring in, as one friend said Barnaby would ‘always be loved’.
